Roots and country show with singer-songwriter Duncan Coker, solo and with his Western Roots & Country band Flattop Rider.
Duncan Coker plays a solo set at American Lore on Saturday, October 17, starting at 11 AM. He's a songwriter and singer from the Colorado piedmont, and while he fronts the Western Roots & Country band Flattop Rider, this particular morning is just him on stage.
Flattop Rider formed in 2024 and has spent the last couple of years building a following across Colorado on the strength of original songs and a western swagger. Their album Roadside Attractions reached the Top 10 on Americana college radio and was named a top release of the month by Westword, which put them on the map as a fresh voice in western roots music. Coker performs both solo and with the full band, so this is one of the quieter ways to catch his writing.
He describes himself as an unrepentant balladeer, and the music sits in the overlap of alternative country, Americana, and indie folk. He's based in Boulder, so this is local territory. If you've followed the band's rise since 2024, this is a chance to hear the songs stripped back to the voice and the guitar, without the full band around him.
