A vibrant community celebration of Día de los Muertos traditions featuring music, dance, art installations, a tianguis marketplace and food trucks at Civic Center Park.
Civic Center Park hosts Día de los Muertos on Saturday, October 24, from noon to 7 PM. It's a community celebration of the tradition of honoring ancestors and loved ones who have passed, rooted in Denver's Mestizo and Mexican-American communities. The whole day is built around a central community ofrenda, and it's free and open to the public.
There's a full schedule of music and dance throughout the afternoon. ArtistiCO plays at 3 PM, followed by Leyenda Original at 4 PM and Kalpulli Mikakuika at 5 PM. At 6 PM, the all-female Denver Mariachi Las Dahlias leads the Procession of Remembrance, and Izcalli takes the stage at 7:30 PM. Between the sets, you'll find a tianguis marketplace and Mexican and Latin American food trucks.
Beyond the music, there's a lot to see. D3 Arts, based in Westwood, is leading this year's art installations, with community members working under artist Santiago Jamarillo to create a Day of the Dead cemetery inspired by Oaxacan traditions in the center of the park. The Denver Botanic Gardens is also contributing sculptures from its Yo Soy: Calacas y Catrinas and Yo Soy: Mariposas sin Fronteras collections, which will be displayed throughout the grounds.

The event comes from the vision of Alicia 'Bruce' Trujillo, a local curator, community builder, and founder of Manos Sagrados, who serves as Artistic and Cultural Director. Under Manos Sagrados' direction, Colorful Colorado Collaborations and Kalpulli Calli Tecpatl bring together the community altars, art installations, music, dance, marketplace, and food trucks. It's free and open to the public at Civic Center Park, downtown Denver, from noon to 7 PM on Saturday, October 24.
