A vibrant celebration of Día de los Muertos featuring a Community Ofrenda, mariachi music, Aztec dancers, lucha libre, dancing horses, a parade, and traditional Mexican food and sweets.
The Urban Farm is hosting Día de los Muertos on Saturday, October 31, from 1 PM to 5 PM. It's a celebration of culture, community, and remembrance, and the whole afternoon is built around a Community Ofrenda—a temporary altar raised in the tradition of the Mexican holiday to welcome and honor the spirits of deceased loved ones. If you want to be part of it, you can submit photographs of your own departed family and friends by October 19, and they'll be printed and added to the altar.
The lineup is a big, eclectic mix. Mariachi Las Dahlias provide the music, and Aztec dancers bring the tradition. There's lucha libre, escaramuza, and dancing horses with side-saddle riders, plus trick ropers. A Goats & Ghouls Parade winds through the grounds, and for those who want to get their hands dirty, there's giant skull painting, sugar skull decorating, and face painting. A mechanical bull is also on site.
Beyond the performances, the farm will have authentic Mexican food and sweets, "beverage burros" working the crowd, and artisan vendors handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. There's also a chance to volunteer for the festivities if you'd rather be behind the scenes than in the crowd.
