A fashion exhibition drawing on over 60 unique designs from the Denver Art Museum's collection, arranged to reveal how style shapes society.
Conversation Pieces is open at the Denver Art Museum through February 7, 2027, in the Textile Arts & Fashion galleries on the sixth floor of the Martin Building. It's a fashion exhibition that pulls from the museum's own collection, featuring more than 60 unique designs—most of which have never been shown before. The pieces are arranged in small groupings that put different garments in dialogue with each other, a setup meant to show how style shapes society.
The show leans on Denver's own fashion legacy, from the city's pioneering donors to the department stores that championed American design. The museum's fashion holdings go back to 1942, and the collection was reignited in 2012 with a Yves Saint Laurent retrospective. At the heart of the exhibition is a continuous runway that winds through the L-shaped gallery, with linked platforms that place garments from different periods side by side. The design was built in collaboration with RIOS, which reconfigured existing modular platforms and used draped fabrics and reflective surfaces to echo the qualities of the clothes; the system is intentionally flexible and reusable for future shows.
