Free outdoor DĂa de los Muertos light installation by AfterLight, with the spirit of DĂa de los Muertos brought to Denver by Catrinas en Mi Ciudad.
Catrinas en Mi Ciudad opens at the Galleria at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Friday, October 30, as part of a larger project by AfterLight. It's a DĂa de los Muertos exhibition, and it sits right in the middle of the city's arts district.
To get the full picture, it helps to know what it's paired with. AfterLight is also presenting The Calling, a free outdoor light installation at the complex. The installation takes names that visitors bring and projects them in light across the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, so if you're heading to the Galleria, you can easily loop that in. The whole thing is built around the spirit of DĂa de los Muertos, and the two pieces—the exhibition inside and the light work outside—work together as part of the same project.
There are a few different hands behind it. The Denver creative studio Haus of Jamin is handling the creative direction and production, and Catrinas en Mi Ciudad is the cultural partner. They describe their role as bringing the spirit of DĂa de los Muertos to Denver and connecting the local community to artists working in Mexico, so the exhibition is as much about those connections as it is about the work on display.

If you're planning to go, the exhibition opens on October 30 at the Galleria, and The Calling is running outdoors at the same time. Both are at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, so you can see them in one trip. The light installation is free, and the exhibition is right there in the Galleria.
