Internationally acclaimed Indigenous guitarist and songwriter Cary Morin performs live in the museum galleries as part of the Music in the Galleries series.
Cary Morin plays at the Clyfford Still Museum on Sunday, December 13, as part of the museum's Music in the Galleries series, presented with Swallow Hill Music. He'll be playing two sets in the galleries: one from 12 to 12:45 PM and another from 1 to 1:45 PM, so you can catch him once or hang around for both.
Morin is an Indigenous guitarist and songwriter, a Crow tribal member born in Billings, Montana, to an Air Force officer, with Assiniboine Sioux and Black ancestry. He's a musical chameleon who pulls from American roots styles — blues, folk, soul, bluegrass, and country — and blends them with the sounds of the Western Plains, the Rocky Mountains, the Appalachian Piedmont, and the deep South. David Bromberg calls him a "unique and brilliant player, songwriter and singer."
He's performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Paris Jazz Festival, the Vancouver Olympics, and the Copenhagen Blues Festival, and has shared stages with Taj Mahal, Los Lobos, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Arlo Guthrie, and Bromberg himself. He's a two-time Indigenous Music Award winner for Best Blues CD, taking the award in 2017 and 2019, and he co-wrote the play Turtle Island. His latest project, Innocent Allies, honors his family's Native American heritage and draws inspiration from the western artist Charles Marion Russell.
