World premiere of the play bogfriends, by Jose Sebastian Alberdi, directed by Joshua Kahan Brody, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
bogfriends opens at the Singleton Theatre on January 15, 2027, and runs through February 21. It's a world premiere from the Denver Center Theatre Company, written by Jose Sebastian Alberdi and directed by Joshua Kahan Brody. The show runs about an hour and 20 minutes with no intermission, so you're in and out in one sitting.
The story follows six souls—Tanner, Archie, Finn, Cillian, Osgar and Irial—who get tied together by love, loss and ancient peat when something buried deep in an Irish bog unexpectedly surfaces. Tanner and Archie are struggling to keep history alive while Finn and Cillian are making plans for their future; Osgar and Irial died a long time ago. From there, the play asks why we return to the people who hurt us and whether we can ever really start fresh, making the question of living with the rot of our past comically and achingly real.
As a world premiere, it's part of the Denver Center's work developing new plays and supporting contemporary voices through ambitious storytelling and thoughtful theatrical design. If you're interested in the process behind it, there are post-show talkbacks scheduled for January 27, February 9 and February 18. There's also an accessible performance with ASL interpretation and audio description on January 31 at 1:30 PM.
