Musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic, a family-friendly holiday tradition at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
A Christmas Carol returns to the Wolf Theatre on Wednesday, November 25, as part of the Denver Center Theatre Company's holiday season. It's a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel, and for many around here, it's become a bit of a family tradition that comes back every year. The story follows the money-hoarding curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge on his overnight journey to redemption, told with live music and period detail.
This particular version was adapted by Richard Hellesen, with original music and lyrics by David de Berry and direction by Anthony Powell. It's a full-scale production, and the musical side is a big part of itβthe songs aren't just background; they drive the story. It's written for all ages, so it works as a family outing as much as a night out on your own.
The show runs through December 27, so there are plenty of dates to choose from. Most DCPA shows run Tuesday through Sunday, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays, which makes it easier to fit in if you're bringing kids or grandparents. The run time is about two hours, with a 15-minute intermission to stretch your legs.

It's playing at the Wolf Theatre, the flagship stage of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, located at 14th and Curtis in the downtown Arts Complex. The Wolf is the largest of the four theatres in the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex, and it was renamed for longtime benefactors Marvin and Judi Wolf. After a 2021 renovation, the proscenium became a thrust stage that seats 610, with no seat more than 13 rows from the stage, so you're never far from the action. Tickets range from $41 to $195, plus a 10% city seat tax and an 18% service fee.
