Independent short film festival exploring intimacy and identity, founded by Dan Savage, presented at the Oriental Theater.
HUMP! is back at the Oriental Theater on Saturday, October 24, with a whole new collection of short films for the fall season. It's a festival that's been around for more than two decades, and it's always centered on the same few things: intimacy, identity, and connection. The films are independent, and they don't hold back on those themes.
If you've never come across it before, HUMP! started as a bold experiment and grew into a global showcase for boundary-pushing cinema. It's a place where emerging voices and seasoned creators both show their work, and the films tend to be thoughtful and provocative. The festival was founded by Dan Savage, and over the last twenty years it's set out to prove that intimacy is culture and that audiences are hungry for work that's bold, funny, handmade, and deeply human. That's the spirit that still carries through the programming.
This particular show is the Early Show of the fall season, and the lineup is entirely new for 2026, so even if you've seen previous HUMP! screenings, there's fresh material here. The films are short, which means you get a variety of perspectives and stories in a single evening rather than one long feature. It's the kind of night that works best when you're in the room with other people, watching these intimate stories unfold on a big screen.
