A choral concert by The Women's Chorus of Dallas and the Turtle Creek Chorale paying musical tribute to the Declaration of Independence.
The Women's Chorus of Dallas and the Turtle Creek Chorale are joining forces for a one-night concert at the Cathedral of Hope on Saturday, October 17. The show is titled We the People, and it brings together more than 150 singers on one stage. The program is a musical tribute to the Declaration of Independence, which the organizers note continues to challenge and inspire the nation 250 years later.
For those who haven't caught them before, The Women's Chorus of Dallas is a local group that describes its mission as using music to bring people together, inspire positive change, and promote the strength, diversity, and empowerment of women. Their repertoire mixes classical choral works, contemporary arrangements, and original compositions, and they stage a signature concert series called Voices of Women. They've shared a stage with Hugh Jackman, who brought them out at the American Airlines Center in 2019. One of their pieces, Wonderfull, draws on a hymn by the Scottish minister George Matheson, who wrote it in 1882 after being blinded at the age of nineteen.
This particular night is a collaboration between two of the city's choral groups, so you'll hear the Women's Chorus and the Turtle Creek Chorale performing together rather than in separate sets. With over 150 voices combined, it's a larger ensemble than either group usually puts on stage alone. The whole evening is built around that single theme—the Declaration of Independence and the freedoms it represents—so the music follows that thread from start to finish.
