Country and Americana music performance by Tyler-James Kelly with Christopher Seymore
Tyler-James Kelly plays The Rustic on Thursday, October 15, with Christopher Seymore joining him on stage. It's a country and Americana night in the heart of Dallas, and if you're not familiar with Kelly, there's a good bit of ground to cover before he takes the stage.
Kelly is a professional musician and guitarist from Hope, Rhode Island, who picked up the guitar at age ten. His first musical discoveries were Robert Johnson and Hank Williams Sr., and from there he developed an obsession with Jim Croce. Since then, he's immersed himself in country songwriting. He's shared stages with Jim Lauderdale, Sean Rowe, The Drive By Truckers, and The Felice Brothers, and he's put out a record called Dream River.
He talks about his influences in a way that gives you a pretty clear sense of where he's aiming. He says he wants to be as smooth as Kristofferson, as gritty as Stapleton, and as wild as Shaver—three very different corners of country music that he's trying to pull together in one set. That range is exactly what to listen for: the polished songwriting of the outlaw era, the rougher edges of modern country, and the loose, unvarnished energy of the road.
