The Band of Heathens and Donavon Frankenreiter perform live at the historic Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas.
The Band of Heathens are playing the Longhorn Ballroom on Friday, November 20, with Donavon Frankenreiter opening. It's a double bill that brings together two acts from different corners of the country on the same stage.
The Band of Heathens are an Austin-based group of troubadours who formed in 2005. They broke into the public consciousness in 2009 with a blend of country and rock that earned them spots on Austin City Limits (PBS) and the Austin City Limits Festival. Principal songwriters Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist give the band its collective focus; their 2011 song "Hurricane" went gold and was later certified platinum. Their upcoming album, Country Sides, takes a look back at their career with gratitude.
They're sharing the bill with Donavon Frankenreiter, a singer-songwriter known for his laid-back, surf-influenced sound. The two acts come from different traditions—the Heathens' country-rock roots and Frankenreiter's coastal, acoustic approach—but they'll be playing the same night.
