Solo exhibition of sculptural concrete works by Dallas artist Rick Fontenot at The East Dock, with an opening reception on October 10.
Rick Fontenot opens a solo exhibition at NO.1s Gallery on Saturday, October 10, titled Detriment to Not. The show runs through October 24, and the opening reception that first Saturday evening is the best time to catch it when the room is full.
Fontenot is a Dallas artist working in concrete, and this collection centers on how we connect and what we build between us. The work is made of individual tessellating forms that fit together into larger compositions, so the meaning comes as much from the relationships between the pieces as from the pieces themselves. Because they're cast in concrete, the forms suggest something permanent, but nothing is actually fixed: the same shapes tell a different story just by changing how they come together.
If you can't make the opening, you've still got plenty of time to see it. After the reception, the gallery is open by appointment from October 11 through October 22, and then it opens back up to the public for the final weekend: Friday, October 23, from 6 to 10 PM, and Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is free.
