Contemporary jazz saxophonist Michael Lington performs his smooth jazz repertoire at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center.
Michael Lington plays the Bishop Arts Theatre Center on Saturday, April 17, 2027. He's a Danish-born contemporary jazz saxophonist who's been working since the 1990s, when he toured with the late Bobby Caldwell and Randy Crawford. His breakthrough album Vivid gave him two Top 5 singles, "Twice in a Lifetime" and "Sunset (Por Do Sol)."
In 2014 he started his own label, Copenhagen Music, which put out Soul Appeal, Second Nature, and Silver Lining â the last one an audio love letter to Memphis. His 2023 single "South Bay," from the EP Looking Ahead, spent seven consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay chart, a record for that chart. He's performed alongside Michael Bolton and Barry Manilow, runs his own weekly radio show on smoothjazz247.com, and in 2024 launched the Sax to Soul guest concert series at Spaghettini Jazz Club in Seal Beach, California. He also plays fundraising concerts for the Children's Starlight Foundation.
His most recent work comes from the 2025 EP On the Scene, and the third single from it, "Goodbye," is a tribute to the late David Sanborn. It's a re-imagining of a cut from Sanborn's 1988 album Close Up. Lington's set will draw from that newer material and the records that came before it.
