Texas songwriter Max Stalling performs with Heather Stalling on fiddle and harmony vocals, with proceeds benefiting HeartGift.
Max Stalling is playing One Nostalgia Tavern on Sunday, October 11, as part of a Sunday Funday afternoon that benefits HeartGift. He'll be joined by Heather Stalling on fiddle and harmony vocals, Glenn Wallace on nylon-string and electric guitar, and Jason Steinsultz on stand-up and electric bass.
Stalling is a Texas songwriter with a background that doesn't exactly scream "folk singer." He studied at Texas A&M, where he earned a master's in Food Science, and spent time in product development for Frito-Lay here in Dallas. He found the local music scene through The Three Teardrops Tavern and KNON radio, and from there he started writing songs, recording albums, and touring with a full band. His style is modern with a vintage feel, and the names he cites as influences—Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, and Jerry Jeff Walker—place him squarely in the Texas songwriting tradition.
He's been releasing on his own Blind Nello Records label for years, with albums like Topaz City (2007), Home to You (2010), and Banquet (2015) as part of that catalog. In June 2008, he received a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi, alongside names like Kris Kristofferson, Michael Nesmith, Selena, and Guy Clark.
