The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents Mahler's Symphony No. 1 with the world premiere of a triple concerto by Anne-Sophie Mutter, performed with Muriel Razavi and Kian Soltani.
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is bringing Anne-Sophie Mutter back to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Friday, April 2, and Saturday, April 3, 2027. Both performances start at 7:30 PM. The evening opens with the world premiere of Golfam Khayam's Triple Concerto for Violin, Viola and Cello, a work that weaves together Persian and Western classical traditions. Mutter takes the violin, joined by violist Muriel Razavi and cellist Kian Soltani. The second half is Mahler's Symphony No. 1, known as Titan.
Mahler's First is framed here as a coming-of-age journey that wanders from sun-drenched meadows to a surreal funeral procession and a final triumph over despair, mirroring the composer's own life. It's a long, sweeping piece that takes you through a few different emotional landscapes in one sitting. Mutter, described as an artistic visionary who has enchanted music lovers around the globe for decades, returns to the DSO to open the evening with the Khayam premiere. Fabio Luisi, the DSO's Music Director, conducts both pieces.
