Annual performance of Handel's Messiah by the Dallas Bach Orchestra and Chorus, directed by James Richman.
The Dallas Bach Society brings Messiah back to the Meyerson Symphony Center on Tuesday, December 22, at 7 PM. It's their annual staging of Handel's oratorio, which is nearly 280 years old and still a mainstay of holiday classical music. The performance features the Dallas Bach Orchestra and Chorus, directed by Artistic Director James Richman, and they're playing it in all three sections.
On the solo front, the lineup includes soprano Taylor Fenner, tenor Dann Coakwell, and bass David Grogan. Joining them is mezzo-soprano Megan Esther Grey, who's making her debut with the society. Grey graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and moved to New York City, where she won the Metropolitan Opera auditions; she's a longtime fan of Baroque music, so this is a natural fit for her.
Beyond the annual Messiah, the society runs educational outreach like the Baroque Break-out program, which brings Baroque music into local high schools with support from the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. It's a good reminder that the group does more than just this one big holiday production.
