The New York and Boston-based rock power trio Lespecial perform live at AM/FM.
Lespecial play AM/FM on Thursday, October 8, starting at 7 PM. They're a progtronic power trio from Connecticut, and they've built their sound around what they call a "heavy future groove" â metal riffage, surgical rhythmic precision, and bone-shaking sub synths. It's the kind of music that fits a dance floor that welcomes everything from moshing to hip swaying.
They carve their own sonic path by synthesizing starkly divergent influences, drawing on J Dilla, Radiohead, King Crimson, and Tool. From there, they veer from hip-hop to metal, prog to house, and from pensive indie-rock to apocalyptic dub. It's a wide reach for one band, and they cover it as a trio: Luke Bemand on bass synth, percussion, and vocals; Rory Dolan on drums, sampler, percussion, and vocals; and Jonathan Grusauskas on guitar, synth, sampler, and percussion. Each member handles multiple roles, so the sound shifts between them throughout the set.
