Chicago tribute band led by Leonid Vorobyev performing live at the Majestic Theatre.
Leonid & Friends play the Majestic Theater on Saturday, October 17, for a tribute to Chicago. It's an 11-piece band led by Leonid Vorobyev, and the set focuses on Chicago's horn-heavy sound. They'll be playing recreations of '25 or 6 to 4', 'Saturday in the Park' and 'Make Me Smile', and they're adding in hits by Earth, Wind & Fire and Steely Dan.
Vorobyev started the group in 2014. He's a Moscow-based multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer and choir conductor who grew up on the American soft rock he discovered in the 1970s USSR. The band took off after he filmed them playing 'Brand New Love Affair', which went viral on YouTube and led to a sold-out US tour in 2019. Since then, they've put out three Chicago tribute albums, each titled Chicagovich, and have met Chicago members Robert Lamm and Danny Seraphine. The band draws musicians from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, and their tribute videos have over 200 million views.
The venue is the Majestic Theater, a restored 1921 vaudeville house and movie palace in the heart of downtown Dallas's Arts District. It's got a Baroque main auditorium with red curtains, black-and-white marble flooring, two balconies, crystal chandeliers and a marble fountain added in the 1940s.
