A hands-on pastry class where attendees learn to make Colombian and Argentine-style empanadas with seasonal fillings.
La Duni Baking Studio is hosting an empanada class at A Tasteful Place on Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 12 PM. It's a hands-on session led by pastry chef Dunia, who walks you through making one of Latin America's most beloved dishes from the ground up. You'll work with both Colombian and Argentine styles, learning how to shape, fill, and cook them, and you'll take the recipes and techniques home with you.
The fillings are seasonal, with roasted sweet potatoes and savory sausage on the menu. Since it's a hands-on class, you're not just watching Dunia work—you're doing the shaping and filling yourself. It's part of the Arboretum's adult and family classes, which run alongside a rotating series of seasonal cooking sessions at A Tasteful Place throughout the year.
If you've been to the Dallas Arboretum in the fall, you know the backdrop. The class falls during Autumn at the Arboretum, which runs from mid-September through November. The 66-acre garden is filled with more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash, and there's a Pumpkin Village themed around modern and contemporary art. It's a Dallas tradition, and the cooking classes are one of the ways you can spend a morning there during the season.
