Concert by Isaac Sloane & The Sound Brigade, a six-piece outfit blending psychedelic jazz and bluesy rock, at the State Fair of Texas.
Isaac Sloane & The Sound Brigade are playing the State Fair of Texas at Fair Park on Saturday, October 10, starting at 12 PM. They're a six-piece outfit from Denton, and their sound sits at the crossroads of psychedelic jazz and bluesy rock 'n' roll.
Frontman and guitarist/vocalist Isaac Sloane formed the band in October 2021, and since then they've built out a full horn section with saxophonists Michael Peterson and Donicio Trujillo. Jake Kerley is on keys, Anthony Peterson is on drums, and his brother Michael Peterson handles bass. That's a lot of musicians on one stage, and it shows in the arrangements—the two saxes give them a brassy weight that a standard rock quartet doesn't have.
Their songbook draws from a specific lineage of heavy, improvisational music: Cream, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Jimi Hendrix, all played with a modern twist. It's the kind of set that leans on the blues and psychedelic rock of the late sixties, but with the horns pulling it toward a big-band sound. The group has been recognized for it, too—they were nominated as Best Blues group at the Dallas Entertainment Awards in both 2024 and 2025.
