Singer-songwriter Sam Beam performs under his stage name Iron & Wine at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas.
Iron & Wine plays The Majestic Theatre on Saturday, October 24, at 7 PM. The bill is just him—no opening act listed—so it's a full evening of his own songs.
If the name is familiar but you can't quite place it, Iron & Wine is the stage name of Sam Beam, a singer-songwriter from Chapin, South Carolina. He's been recording under that moniker for more than a decade now, and the body of work behind it is pretty substantial: eight albums, a handful of EPs and singles, and the first few volumes of an Archive Series. He's built a following around songs that he describes as cinematic, and the sound sits right at the crossroads of folk, alternative, and indie.
That folk side is the clearest thread. Beam started out recording in his home, and that quiet, stripped-back approach still informs much of what he does. Over the years he's expanded the arrangements, but the songwriting—the melodies and the lyrics—remains the center of it. With eight albums to pull from, there's plenty of ground for a single set to cover, from the early, hushed recordings to the more produced material that came later.
