A therapeutic improv comedy course combining light-hearted games with professional counselling techniques to help participants manage anxiety and improve emotional regulation.
Stomping Ground Comedy Theater & Training Center is starting a new course, Improv for Anxiety, on Tuesday, Oct 13, at 1350 Manufacturing St Ste 109 in Dallas. It runs every Tuesday through Nov 24, from 6 PM to 8 PM, so it's a weekly commitment rather than a one-off show.
The whole thing is built on the idea that laughter can make difficult things a little easier, and that anxiety is often what keeps people from trying new things in the first place. It's led by a Licensed Professional Counselor and takes place in a low-stakes group setting, mixing light-hearted improv games with therapeutic techniques. The goal is to help you become more aware of your emotions, express them, and learn how to regulate them, all while connecting with other people in the room. The modalities they pull from include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Biofeedback, Mindfulness, and Rapid Resolution Therapy.
If you're not familiar with the venue, Stomping Ground does a lot more than just this course. They run a wide range of improv classes, house teams like Malicious Compliance and Rainbow Rats, and audience-participation shows like Shenanigans and The Drawing Room. This course sits on the more therapeutic end of what they do, but it's still rooted in the same improv community.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Dallas and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
