Internationally acclaimed Swedish jazz superstar Gunhild Carling performs with the 18-piece Texins Jazz Band at the Eisemann Center.
Gunhild Carling plays the Eisemann Center on Saturday, October 24, presented by the Texins Jazz Band. It's a big-band night at the Bank of America Theatre, with Carling taking the lead and the Texins providing the brassy backdrop.
Carling is a Swedish jazz musician and vocalist who goes by the name "Sweden's Queen of Swing." She's a multi-instrumentalist who plays more than ten instruments—trombone, trumpet, bagpipes, harp, and recorder among them—and is known for playing three trumpets at once. You might recognize her from her work with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, though she's just as active as a bandleader. Her shows blend New Orleans jazz, vaudeville charm, and jazz standards, and she draws from the influence of Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday. Her most recent album, Jazz Is My Lifestyle, runs to eleven original tracks.
Backing her is the Texins Jazz Band, an 18-piece Dallas community big band. They started in 1986 at Texas Instruments as The Texas Instruments Jazz Band, renamed in 2020 and now run as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the musical direction of Bill Centera. Most of the members are STEM professionals, and 2026 marks the band's 40th anniversary.
