A symphonic concert by the Lone Star Wind Orchestra exploring Japanese culture, from Mount Fuji to the soundtrack of Spirited Away.
Lone Star Wind Orchestra brings From Fuji to the Spirit World: A Japanese Cultural Concert to Moody Performance Hall on Sunday, January 24, at 3 PM. It's a wind ensemble performance centered on Japanese landscapes, traditions, and artistic imagination, with Music Director Eugene Migliaro Corporon leading the orchestra.
The program is built as a journey that moves from the majesty of Mount Fuji to the sounds of the award-winning anime film Spirited Away. Along the way, the orchestra works through pieces by Julie Giroux, Keiko Abe, and Joe Hisaishi, whose score for Spirited Away is one of the most recognizable in modern cinema. The set draws from both traditional Japanese imagery and the country's contemporary cultural exports, so it's a mix of the classical and the cinematic.
