Industrial metal band Fear Factory performs live at AM/FM in Dallas, with Mushroomhead and Nine Treasures on the bill.
Fear Factory play AM/FM on Sunday, November 8, with Mushroomhead and Nine Treasures on the bill. It's a full night of industrial metal, with Fear Factory taking the top slot.
If you're not familiar with them, Fear Factory came out of Los Angeles in the early '90s and helped shape the sound of industrial metal. Their 1992 debut, Soul of a New Machine, set the template: guitarist and co-founder Dino Cazares on staccato, machine-like riffs, Burton C. Bell blending death-metal howls with soaring singing, and drummer Raymond Herrera holding it all together. The 1995 follow-up, Demanufacture, became a classic of the genre, certified Gold in Australia and Silver in the UK, and its track "Zero Signal" landed on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack.
The band spent the next few years pushing that sound into different territories. The 1997 remix album Remanufacture featured a then-29-year-old Thomas Holkenborg, who later became Junkie XL, and the 1998 concept album Obsolete brought in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Digimortal (2001) saw "Linchpin" hit the Mainstream Rock Top 40. Bell left in 2002, and the band reformed in 2004, with Cazares returning in 2010 on Mechanize, which many saw as a return to form. Genexus (2015) was called their best album in two decades, and 2020's Aggression Continuum was their tenth, produced by Damien Rainaud and mixed by Andy Sneap.
