Concert featuring the Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fabio Luisi, with Karen Gomyo on violin, performing Debussy's La mer and other works.
Fabio Luisi leads the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Saturday, November 21, and Sunday, November 22, for the opening of the orchestra's 2026/27 classical season. Violinist Karen Gomyo joins them on stage for both performances.
The program is built around Debussy's La mer, three shimmering musical portraits of the sea that grew out of the composer's lifelong passion for the water. Gomyo is known for bringing an unbroken wave of controlled energy to her performances, and she'll be the soloist on the second piece of the night: Samy Moussa's violin concerto Adrano. It's the DSO premiere of the work, which Moussa inspired by the Sicilian town of the same name and the ancient rituals thought to summon Adranus, the god of fire. The rest of the bill rounds out with Mozart's Symphony No. 31 in D Major 'Paris' and Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the one immortalized by Mickey Mouse in Disney's Fantasia.
These concerts kick off a full classical season that goes on from here with Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Bach's St John Passion. If you're coming early, there are pre-concert talks with assistant conductor Shira Samuels-Shragg over in Horchow Hall to set the stage before the music starts.
