Pianist Lise de la Salle plays Mozart and Dvořák quintets with a group of Dallas Symphony Orchestra strings in a chamber setting.
Lise de la Salle takes the stage at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Wednesday, October 21, for a chamber concert with a small group of Dallas Symphony Orchestra musicians. It's a stripped-back evening that pairs the French pianist with a string ensemble rather than the full orchestra, which puts the focus on the individual lines and the conversation between the instruments.
The program balances two distinct moods. The first half is Mozart's Viola Quintet No. 3 in C Major, K.515, a radiant piece full of charming rhythms and crystalline melodies. The second half shifts to Dvořák's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81, which is more richly melodic and dramatic. Between the two, the evening moves from Mozart's light, airy textures to Dvořák's deeper, more sweeping sound.
De la Salle shares the stage with six DSO strings: Nathan Olson and Alexander Kerr on violin, Meredith Kufchak and Matthew Sinno on viola, and Christopher Adkins on cello. The chamber setting gives each of them room to be heard, and the program is built around that interplay. If you're a member of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Guild, there's an added perk: you can join the artist for a pre-concert Q&A before the music starts.
