A three-hour introduction to relief printmaking where participants learn carving techniques and create handmade holiday gifts and cards.
Matt and Sharon Bagley of Iron Frog Press are leading a printmaking class at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on Sunday, November 8, from 1 PM to 4 PM. It's a three-hour introduction to relief printmaking, and you don't need to be an artist to get into it. The Bagleys walk you through composition, transfer methods, and basic carving techniques before you print an edition from a linoleum block. Once you've got your prints, they show you how to turn those fine art pieces into handmade gifts and cards for the holiday season, so you leave with something you can actually give away.
The class is held in the Green Classroom, which is the home for the Arboretum's Creative Arts strand. That's part of a wider program of hands-on adult and family classes in horticulture, cooking, crafting, and nutrition that's open to all ages and changes with the seasons. If you've never done a class there before, this is a good way to see how it works.

The date falls during Autumn at the Arboretum, one of the city's favorite seasonal traditions, when more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash fill the 66-acre garden. It's a good excuse to spend a few hours on the grounds before the winter sets in. The class runs from 1 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, November 8, at the Green Classroom; it's $69 for members and $79 for guests.
