A holiday concert featuring the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's brass and percussion sections alongside the Lay Family Concert Organ, conducted by Lawrence Loh.
Brassy Holidays comes to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Tuesday, December 15, at 7:30 PM. It's a one-night-only holiday concert that pairs the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's brass and percussion sections with the venue's Lay Family Concert Organ. Together they'll run through the boldest Christmas classics, with the full force of tubas, trombones, snares and cymbals behind them. The Meyerson is home to that organ, and the performance runs about two hours.
Lawrence Loh conducts the evening, with the Dallas Symphony Brass & Percussion and Bradley Hunter Welch on the Lay Family Concert Organ. It's a brass-heavy program, so the tubas and trombones get as much room as the trumpets, and the percussion section keeps the energy up throughout. The organ fills in the low end and adds the scale that a smaller ensemble usually misses.
The concert is part of the orchestra's 2026/27 season, which they've framed around the idea of inviting audiences to "really listen" in a world of constant noise. Brassy Holidays fits that theme in its own way: it's a loud, direct approach to the holiday repertoire, stripped down to the brass and percussion rather than the full orchestra.
