Live music performance by the Brandon Callies Band, blending indie, folk and americana styles at the Dallas Farmers Market.
Brandon Callies Band plays the Dallas Farmers Market on Thursday, October 8, with Brandon Callies on vocals and guitar. It's a local show in the city they call home.
Callies started the band back in 2007, and the sound they've built since then pulls from a few different places: indie, folk, and americana, with what they describe as a dash of occasional doom rock. That last part is the curveball—the doom rock doesn't usually sit in the same room as folk and americana, so it's the kind of thing that keeps the set from leaning too far in one direction. They're signed to Hand Drawn Records, a label that's been part of the Dallas scene for years.
Because they're a Dallas band, this is one of those hometown dates where you're seeing them on their own turf. If you've followed them since the early days, you've seen how those indie and folk influences have worked together over the years, and the doom rock is the element that keeps the sound from settling into one easy category. It's a good way to get a sense of where they've been since 2007.
