Interactive, family-friendly debate show where audience members vote to decide which topic reigns supreme in a smashdown format.
Brains On: Smash Boom Best comes to the Wyly Theatre on Sunday, October 11, at 2 PM. It's an interactive debate show for kids and families, produced by Brains On Universe and hosted by Molly Bloom. The whole thing is built around the audience, so if you're bringing your kids, they're not just sitting there watching—they're part of the show.
Here's how it works: Bloom is joined by three debaters who go head-to-head in two 'smash boom smackdowns.' The topics are kept top secret until the day of the debate, so neither the debaters nor the audience know what they'll be arguing about until the show starts. In each round, the debaters take two things, smash them together, and make their case for which one is best, using facts and passion to win over the room. The audience members serve as the judges, voting to decide which topic reigns supreme.
Beyond the competition, there's a bit of a lesson woven in. The show is designed to teach listeners how to defend their own opinions, so while the debaters are fighting it out on stage, the kids in the seats are seeing how to build an argument and back it up. It's a family-friendly afternoon, and since the voting is in the audience's hands, the outcome changes depending on who's in the room.
