If you've followed them, you know they're a six-piece that doesn't stay in one place for long. Their debut, For the First Time, earned a Mercury Prize nomination. The follow-up, Ants From Up There, shifted into art-rock meeting chamber pop. When singer Isaac Wood left shortly after that, the band wrote a new set of songs to tour, which they eventually released as the live album Live at Bush Hall.
Their third studio album, produced by James Ford, changes things again. This time, vocal duties and most of the songwriting are split among the three female members—Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery, and May Kershaw. The sound draws on folk, prog, baroque pop, and alt-rock, with nods to Joanna Newsom, Randy Newman, Fiona Apple, and Janis Ian. It's a different kind of record from the ones that came before it.
