Lone Star Wind Orchestra tribute to American composer Morton Gould, with world premiere of Suite Eugene, conducted by Eugene Migliaro Corporon.
Lone Star Wind Orchestra is playing Moody Performance Hall on Sunday, November 22, at 3 PM. The concert, An American Soundscape: Salute to Morton Gould, is a tribute to the American composer Morton Gould, and it's part of the orchestra's 21st season.
Eugene Migliaro Corporon conducts the full orchestra, and the LSWO Woodwind Quintet also takes the stage. The program mixes Gould's better-known classics with some of his bolder, less-familiar work, and it features the world premiere of Suite Eugene. The orchestra describes the whole thing as a stirring tribute to the American experience, blending those classics and bold voices into a celebration of legacy and pride.
There's a specific side to this performance that doesn't usually make it into the program notes. The concert is part of the Lone Star Kids program, which brings students from Title-I middle schools and their affiliates into a professional concert venue for their first exposure to classical music performed at a professional level. They're joined by the Lone Star Youth Winds, an elite high school honor group. Thanks to supporters, the orchestra can now offer up to 150 tickets to a Title-I school per concert, up from a previous maximum of 50.
