Opera Columbus production of the opera 'The Shining', with music by Paul Moravec and a libretto by Mark Campbell, based on the novel by Stephen King.
Opera Columbus is bringing The Shining to the Palace Theatre on April 16 and 18, 2027. It's a production based on Stephen King's novel, with music by Paul Moravec and a libretto by Mark Campbell. CAPA is co-presenting it alongside the company.
The opera puts you inside the Overlook Hotel, where the Torrance family is trapped by snow, isolation, and the hotel's malevolent history. Danny's sixth sense exposes horrors long buried, Jack's struggle with his past turns increasingly dangerous, and Wendy refuses to give up. Moravec's haunting score and Campbell's libretto turn King's psychological thriller into a family drama, performed in English with English captions. It's presented with the permission of Subito Music Corporation and is rated 13+ for depictions of extreme violence, including domestic abuse and murder.
Opera Columbus has been around since 1981 and is led by General Director and CEO Julia Noulin-Mรฉrat; the company describes itself as redefining regional opera. This production is part of their 2026-27 season.
