First solo exhibition in Columbus and the Midwest by Lagos-based multimedia artist Temitayo Ogunbiyi, with drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations about plants.
Temitayo Ogunbiyi is showing at the Wexner Center for the Arts from September 20, 2026, through February 14, 2027. The exhibition is titled You will have revelations along felled branches and longer roots/routes, and it's her first solo show in Columbus and the Midwest. It's organized by The Arts Club of Chicago and coordinated at the Wexner by Curator of Exhibitions Rebecca Lowery.
Ogunbiyi is a Lagos-based multimedia artist who works with the relationship between the environment, line, and representation. Her practice builds dialogues between global current events, anthropological histories, and botanical cultures. She moves between drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation, and to date she's built fourteen functional playgrounds, which have been shown at venues like De Singel in Antwerp, the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, and the Harewood Biennial in Leeds.
Much of her work takes the form of copper-alloy casts of grinding stones and palm fibers, alongside botanical drawings on herbarium paper revealed inside antique wooden desks and side tables. These pieces invite you to explore the layered histories and everyday uses of plants, from Nigeria to the American Midwest. The show has already been reviewed by Lucas Gómez-Doyle in the Chicago Reader, Jonathan Bonfiglio in Newcity Art, and Ann Mbuti in Frieze.
