Beginner silversmithing pop-up class taught by Pam O'Dea, in which each maker chooses copper, brass or silver to make a stacking ring.
Pam O'Dea is hosting a beginner silversmithing pop-up at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on Saturday, December 19, from 11 AM to 2 PM. It's a hands-on session where you'll take a handmade ring blank and work it into a finished piece—texturing it, shaping it, and sizing it to fit your finger. You get to pick your metal, too: copper, brass, or silver.
O'Dea is a Columbus-based mixed media artist and co-owner of Good Dea Craft School, and her path to jewelry has been a long one. She started with textiles in the late 1990s, sewing and making bags, then spent a decade as a portrait photographer working with models from Ford and other agencies across the country. From there she moved to Wyoming, where she specialized in beading and semi-precious stone jewelry and studied Acutonics after discovering natural healing through sound, vibration, and meditation. She returned to Columbus in 2022 to share her art through project-based classes, and she lives here now with her husband and son.

The pop-up runs in 20-minute time slots, each limited to six people, so it's a small-group setting rather than a big room. It's open to all ages, and since you choose your own metal, you can go with copper or brass for something more affordable or silver if you want a precious metal. The cost is $60 for silver or $40 for copper or brass.
