Chicago band Post Animal plays Skully's Music Diner with support from GIFT on the Maybe You Have To Tour.
Post Animal bring their Maybe You Have To Tour to Skully's Music Diner on Monday, November 2, with GIFT opening the bill. The Chicago five-piece is known for a psychedelic rock sound that doesn't sit in one place, and the set should reflect that.
One of the things that sets them apart is how they handle the vocals: Dalton Allison, Jake Hirshland, Javier Reyes, Wesley Toledo, and Matthew Williams each take the lead on different songs, so the voice changes throughout the night. That collaborative spirit is a good way to get a sense of how they work. When the pandemic cut short their 2020 US tour, they spent a long stretch demoing in their home studios before reconvening at Hirshland's family farm to record Love Gibberish. They released it independently and self-produced it, with Allison handling the mixing and engineering.
Love Gibberish pulls from a wide sonic palette, drawing on Toto and Black Sabbath as much as Jon Hopkins and '80s hair metal. The cover art plays with that same mix, swapping the band members' eyes to blur youth and age. The creative thread that led there actually started on the road during their 2020 Forward Motion Godyssey tour, when they shared song ideas in the van between stops.
