World-premiere musical that reimagines Sheryl Crow's songs through drama, ballet and a live on-stage quintet, co-produced by CAPA, BalletMet and ODD Continent.
Ordinary Woman opens at the Davidson Theatre on Friday, November 20, and runs through Sunday, November 22. It's a world-premiere musical drama built around the songs of Sheryl Crow, and it's only playing three performances, so you'll want to pick your night early.
The show isn't a jukebox revue. It's a new story that pulls from Crow's catalog—songs like "Steve McQueen" and "Strong Enough"—and weaves them into a drama that mixes acting, singing, and ballet. On stage, you'll see actors and singers sharing the space with BalletMet dancers, all backed by a live quintet playing right there in the room. It's a collaboration between CAPA, BalletMet, and the European production company ODD Continent, and it was put together here in Columbus by a team that included BalletMet artistic director Remi Wörtmeyer.
The story follows two estranged midwestern sisters, Abilene and Rosalyn, who are forced back together by environmental and social unrest. As they reconcile their past, they have to confront the hidden toll of postpartum depression. It's a family drama at its core, and the music is used to carry the emotional weight of that relationship.

Because it's a world premiere, this is the first time the show is being staged anywhere. It runs November 20 through 22 at the Davidson Theatre in the Riffe Center, with just three performances in total.
