ProMusica Chamber Orchestra performs Schumann's Symphony No. 3 'Rhenish' in a Naked Classics evening that guides listeners through the work before the full performance.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra brings Schumann's Symphony No. 3 'Rhenish' to the Southern Theatre on Friday, April 9, 2027. It's part of their Naked Classics series, which is a bit different from a standard night at the symphony. Instead of just sitting down and listening, the evening is built around a guided tour of the piece, with host Paul Rissmann leading the way.
The Naked Classics format is designed to pull back the curtain on the orchestral repertoire. Before the full performance, the orchestra deconstructs the work using images, sound bites, and interviews with the musicians to point out secrets in the score and talk through the composer's life and times. The idea is to give you a way into the music before you hear it in its entirety. It's aimed at everyone from the frequent concertgoer to someone who's never stepped foot in a concert hall, and it's not part of the subscription series, so you can drop in on its own.
Schumann's Symphony No. 3 is a romantic masterpiece inspired by the landscapes of the Rhine River, and the evening pairs that guided journey through the work with the full piece performed live. On stage, you'll find the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra led by Music Director David Danzmayr, with creative partner and violinist Vadim Gluzman. ProMusica has been around since 1979 and operates as a creative collective of 37 musicians; over the years, they've commissioned 73 new works and presented more than 130 world and regional premieres.
