Alternative and industrial metal show with Mushroomhead, Fear Factory, Nine Treasures and To Kill A Monster!! at The King of Clubs.
Mushroomhead are playing The King of Clubs on Friday, October 30, with Fear Factory and Nine Treasures on the bill. To Kill A Monster!! and others are also listed, so there's a full slate of bands before the headliner takes the stage. Doors open at 6 PM, and the show is open to all ages with adult supervision.
If you're not familiar with Mushroomhead, they're an alternative metal band from Cleveland, started back in 1993 by drummer Skinny as a side project. The masks are their most recognizable thing—they performed incognito to avoid being recognized, a gimmick that ended up building a rabid following in the city. They released a self-titled debut independently in 1995, followed by Superbuick in 1996 and M3 in 1999, both through underground street efforts. After moving to Universal Records, they put out XX in 2001, XIII in 2003, and Savior Sorrow in 2006 on Megaforce Records, with XIII selling over 200,000 units in the US. In 2010, they released Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children, which debuted at #44 on the Billboard charts.
Their sound blends metal, atmospheric elements, rock, and theatrics, all held together by a punk DIY attitude. They've cited Pantera, Faith No More, and Pink Floyd as influences, and you can hear those pulling in different directions—the heavy riffs, the experimental textures, and the more atmospheric, spacey moments. It's a mix that fits the masks and the stage show they've built around it.
