A cinematic evening of Mediterranean music with Morricone's 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'Gabriel's Oboe', Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Aranjuez' and Mendelssohn's 'Italian' Symphony, played by ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra is at the Southern Theatre on Saturday, January 16, and again on Sunday, January 17, 2027. Both nights start at 7 PM, with doors opening at 6 PM. It's part of their 48th season, and the program is built around a Mediterranean theme.
The evening opens with Ennio Morricone: Cinema Paradiso and Gabriel's Oboe. From there, the focus shifts to Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, performed in a new arrangement by Anneleen Lenaerts, the principal harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic. The second half belongs to Mendelssohn, with his Symphony No. 4, the Italian, which the orchestra describes as radiant, warm, colorful and full of vitality. After the music, there's a post-concert conversation with the artists.
ProMusica has been around since 1979, and this is their 48th season. They're led by Music Director David Danzmayr, with violinist Vadim Gluzman as Creative Partner. Over the years, they've commissioned new works and presented more than 130 world and regional premieres; their 2026-2027 season pairs timeless masterworks with bold contemporary voices. The whole evening runs about an hour and a half, including intermission.
