The Ohio State University Marching Band plays selections from its halftime shows, fan favourites and traditional Ohio State tunes in a concert hall.
The Ohio State University Marching Band is playing at Mershon Auditorium on Friday, November 20, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. It's called the Hometown Concert, and the whole point is to hear the band in a concert hall instead of on a football field. They'll be playing selections from their halftime shows, fan favorites, and traditional Ohio State tunes.
Most people know them as 'The Best Damn Band in the Land,' and they've earned that reputation by pioneering things like floating and animated formations, script writing, and that fast cadence with the high knee lift. Their 'Script Ohio' is widely considered the most memorable tradition in college band history. The ensemble carries on a tradition that dates back to the late 1800s, and the 228-piece 'Pride of the Buckeyes' is one of the few all-brass-and-percussion college bands in the U.S., and is acknowledged as the largest of its type in the world. They perform at Ohio State football games and other events throughout the autumn semester.
Because this is a concert hall performance, you'll hear the music without the football game around it. The program pulls from the halftime shows they've been playing all season, along with the older fan favorites and the traditional tunes that have been part of the band's identity for years. It's a different way to experience a group that usually spends its time on the move.
