Hands-on floral design class with instructor James Novotny to make a four-foot holiday garland of pine and seasonal greenery.
Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is hosting a holiday floral arrangement class on Friday, December 11, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's held in the Wells Barn, so you'll be working right on the grounds of one of Columbus's best horticultural spots.
The class is hands-on: you'll make a holiday garland about four feet long using fresh pine and seasonal greenery. From there, you'll accent it with dried flowers, fruit, citrus slices, pinecones, and other botanical treasures. The whole thing is built to last through the holidays, so it's meant to stay up on your mantle or doorway rather than fade in a week. You'll walk out with a finished piece you made yourself.
Leading the session is James Novotny, a visual and cultural arts historian and Certified Floral Designer. He's been designing for retail shops and event studios since 2009 and earned his CFD designation in 2020 after studying at the Floral Design Institute in Portland, Oregon. He'll be there to walk you through the process, so you don't need to be an expert to join in.
