30-minute guided tour led by a museum docent that explores the Columbus Museum of Art's collection and special exhibitions through close looking and conversation.
The Columbus Museum of Art is running its Highlights Tour on Friday, November 6, as part of a series that goes every second Friday of the month from September 4 through December 18. It's a thirty-minute guided walk led by a museum docent, and the way they do it is worth mentioning: it's built around close looking and conversation rather than a straight lecture. You're invited to ask questions and draw your own conclusions, a collaborative, inquiry-based approach the museum says opens new perspectives on the work. It's less about being told what to see and more about figuring it out as you go.
The tour pulls from the museum's permanent collection, which spans late nineteenth and early twentieth-century American and European modern art, Impressionism, German Expressionism, Cubism, folk art, contemporary art, glass, and photography. It also draws from the special exhibitions on view. The galleries hold the world's largest collections of work by local artists Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, Elijah Pierce, and George Bellows, alongside acclaimed holdings like The Photo League and the Philip and Suzanne Schiller Collection of American Social Commentary Art. Depending on the day, you might find yourself in front of a piece of early modernism or something from a temporary show.

That's the museum's mission in a nutshell: creating great experiences with great art for everyone and removing barriers between the community and the collection. The tour is a drop-in and is included with admission, so you don't need a separate ticket. It runs from 1:00 to 1:30 PM at the Columbus Museum of Art, 480 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
