The Columbus Symphony and Columbus Symphony Chorus, conducted by Rossen Milanov, perform Haydn's oratorio The Creation with soloists Aubry Ballarò, Jonas Hacker and Joel Balzun.
The Columbus Symphony brings Joseph Haydn's The Creation to the Ohio Theatre on March 12 and 13, 2027. It's one of Haydn's biggest works, an oratorio that sets the Book of Genesis to music and brings together orchestra, chorus, and soloists. If you're a fan of Handel's Messiah, this is right in that same wheelhouse.
Haydn is remembered as one of the most influential figures in Classical music, the father of both the string quartet and the symphony, and The Creation is a prime example of him working at the top of his game. The soloists take on the roles of the archangels Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael, and later become Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Around them, the chorus and orchestra paint the chaos of the early universe and the creation of heaven, earth, animals, and man. It's a large-scale piece that needs all those parts working together to pull off the whole story.
On the podium is conductor Rossen Milanov, with the Columbus Symphony Chorus led by chorus director Stephen Caracciolo. The soloists are soprano Aubry Ballarò, tenor Jonas Hacker, and baritone Joel Balzun. The performances are made possible by benefactor Anne H. Melvin.
