Fall haunted tour of the Ohio Statehouse by oil lantern light, with history and hauntings, recommended for ages 12 and up.
The Haunted Ohio Statehouse Tours are back at The Ohio Statehouse on Friday and Saturday nights, October 16-17 and 23-24. It's a fall tradition that mixes history, hauntings, and Halloween inside the state's 'People's House'—the limestone building that usually serves as a working government office in downtown Columbus.
On these tours, a conductor leads you through the dimly lit corridors by oil lantern light. Along the way, they'll point out the ghosts said to wander the halls: President Lincoln in an unfinished dance with Kate Chase, the daughter of former Ohio Governor Salmon P. Chase; a weeping lady in grey; and a green, ghostly president felled by an assassin's bullet. It's a slow walk through the building's darker side, and it's recommended for ages 12 and up.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Statehouse stays a working government office, so the House and Senate Chambers are only viewable on guided tours like this one. If you've walked past the building a hundred times but never been inside, this is one of the few ways to see those rooms.
