Gym Class Heroes and Lupe Fiasco play KEMBA Live! in Columbus on the Back To Basics Tour.
Gym Class Heroes and Lupe Fiasco are playing KEMBA Live! on Wednesday, November 11, as part of their Back To Basics Tour. It's a double bill that brings together two acts from different corners of hip-hop: one a full band, the other a solo rapper.
Gym Class Heroes formed in 2001 in Geneva, New York, and built their sound around a live band rather than just a DJ. They blend hip-hop with rock, R&B, and funk, and signed to Pete Wentz's Decaydance label. Their biggest chart run came with "Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast in America," which hit the top five of the Hot 100. Lupe Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, is a Chicago rapper whose albums Food & Liquor, Lasers, and Food & Liquor II all reached the top ten. His single "Daydreamin'" won a Grammy, and he later released Drogas Light/Wave and taught rap at MIT.

On the same bill, you've got the band's live-instrument approach and Lupe's lyricism. The tour title, Back To Basics, points to the two acts sharing a stage for a single night. The show is at KEMBA Live!, 405 Neil Ave, Columbus, OH 43215, and starts at 8 PM.
