Concert by the British vocal ensemble The Gesualdo Six with works by Gesualdo, Byrd and others, in the 47th Early Music in Columbus season.
The Gesualdo Six play St. Joseph Cathedral on Friday, February 5, 2027, as part of the 47th Early Music in Columbus season. They're performing a program called Penitence & Prayer, and it pulls from a wide span of composers: Robert White, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Owain Park, Byrd, Gesualdo, Lotti, Victoria, and Guerrero. That's a mix of Renaissance and Baroque masters alongside two contemporary voices, Frances-Hoad and Park.
The group is a British vocal ensemble founded by conductor and composer Owain Park, who's also one of the composers on the program. They've been described as one of the world's most admired vocal groups, known for a warm, perfectly blended, and intimate singing style. Park is an award-winning composer whose works are performed regularly by leading choirs around the world, and the ensemble has appeared at many of Europe's leading festivals and concert halls.
The concert is part of the Early Music in Columbus series, which focuses on music written before 1800. The series stages concerts at historical sites across the city with local, national, and international artists specializing in the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, playing on reproductions of historical instruments. This 47th season runs seven concerts and is supported by the Ohio Arts Council, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, The Columbus Foundation, and the Arts Midwest Touring Fund.
