A Tony Award-winning musical about a teenager thrust into a controversy, with a score by Pasek and Paul.
Dear Evan Hansen opens at the Garden Theater on January 21, 2027, and runs through February 14. It's presented by Short North Stage, the professional regional theatre that stages its productions at the historic Garden Theater in Columbus's Short North Arts District.
The story follows seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen, who has felt invisible his entire life until a tragedy thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy and gives him the chance to be somebody else. It's a character study that starts with a lie and spirals from there, and it's built around the idea that everyone wants to be seen.
Behind the show is a Tony Award-winning book by Steven Levenson, who also wrote Fosse/Verdon, and a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind The Greatest Showman, La La Land, and Dogfight. The production won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and carries the message "You Will Be Found." It opened on Broadway in 2016 and has since become a classic, with anthems like "Waving Through A Window" that most people recognize even if they've never seen the show.
